The Michigan State Capitol is located in the center block of Lansing, Michigan. It was originally opened in 1879 and was modeled after the United States Capitol in Washington D.C.
After continuous use for over 100 years, the Capitol was in need of restoration which was completed in 1992. This restoration was done as closely as possible to the original, while accomodating modern technology.
The Michigan State Capitol was honored with Federal designation as a National Historical Landmark and is one of the few State Capitols to have this distinction. Part of the reason for this is that the interior of the Capitol is one of the best surviving examples of Victorian decorative art in the United States.
